Dolch vocabulary
Edward William Dolch’s A Basic Sight Word Vocabulary (1936), The Elementary School Journal, 36, 456–460, is the source of the conventional 220-word service vocabulary, with a separate 95-word noun collection. The word studio uses the conventional pre-primer, primer, first-, second-, and third-grade groupings, plus nouns.
Reference resources: University of Utah Reading Clinic and Readsters’ comparison of the Dolch and Fry lists. Their page layouts, explanatory text, and printable designs are not reproduced here. Our cards use our own layout.
Reading research and teaching references
- IES / What Works Clearinghouse: Foundational Skills to Support Reading for Understanding in Kindergarten Through 3rd Grade (2016, revised 2019).

Typefaces and illustrations
The website uses the system fonts installed on your device, including available sans-serif and serif faces. It makes no Google Fonts requests. The book, flowers, word cards, and other decorative illustrations are locally served SVG and CSS artwork made for this learning site.
