Not an individual assessment

Articles, word lists, activities, awards, and progress displays do not diagnose dyslexia, language disorders, developmental conditions, or other learning needs. They do not determine a reading age, grade placement, or readiness for a particular curriculum. Speak with a teacher or appropriately qualified professional for concerns about a child’s progress.

No guaranteed outcomes

No promise is made that a specific practice duration, completed word list, app score, or subscription will produce a particular educational outcome. Children learn at different rates and need different kinds of support. App mastery labels and awards describe practice within the app; they are not standardised reading assessments.

Word lists and teaching approaches

Dolch groupings provide a conventional organisation of common words. They are not a personalised teaching order or a deadline for a particular age. Some words contain unfamiliar or irregular spellings. Common-word practice should be accompanied by explicit instruction in sound–spelling relationships and meaningful reading.

Sources and educational content

Articles link to research and teaching resources where relevant. Citing those resources does not mean they evaluated or endorse Sight Word Adventure or this site. Activity suggestions and illustrations are not themselves research findings. We aim for accuracy, but information may require correction or updating.

Optional voice recognition

Speech recognition can mishear speech, accents, background sounds, and quiet voices. A result is not a clinical pronunciation assessment. Voice practice is optional and off by default; letter practice is available. See the app privacy notice for supported-device and data-handling details.

Grown-up guidance

Parents, carers, and educators should choose suitable activities and supervise use. Take breaks and adapt practice to the child. Website app illustrations are conceptual artwork, not screenshots or promises about a particular app interface.

Accuracy, availability, and local records

I try to keep the service working, but cannot warrant that it is uninterrupted or error-free. App learning data lives on your device; a lost or cleared device can mean lost records. Use the parent export controls if you want a copy, and manage that copy appropriately. The website’s word studio does not store practice records.
