CLARITY FOR GROWN-UPS
Sight Word Adventure privacy
App version 1.5.0 · 3 October 2026
Privacy notice, speech recognition, and child safety policy for the Sight Word Adventure Android application (Version 1.5.0 / 3 October 2026).
Sight Word Adventure - Privacy notice (Version 1.5.0 / 3 October 2026)
Sight Word Adventure is an educational reading game designed for children ages 4 and up. It does not require a child account, does not ask for your child's name, and contains zero advertising. All practice history, word outcomes, retries, reading streaks, earned stickers, and awards stay strictly on your own device. Voice is optional and off by default. When enabled by a grown-up in Parents > Privacy & learning data, Android's on-device recognition API evaluates pronunciation in real time — the app does not store audio or speech transcripts. Letter practice is always available using on-screen buttons without opening a third-party keyboard. Optional subscription upgrades are strictly protected behind parental gate verification.

This notice specifically and exclusively governs the Sight Word Adventure Android application
(application ID / package name com.morgan.sightwordadventure, also referred to as “Sight Words Adventure”
and previously published as “Learn to Read and Speak Sight Words”).
Children's privacy & COPPA / GDPR-K compliance
Sight Word Adventure is built for young children learning to read (Pre-Primer, Primer, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and Nouns vocabulary). Protecting young learners' privacy is central to how the app is engineered: no child account, name, email address, date of birth or location is requested. The app has no advertising, social sharing, analytics SDK or developer-operated learning-data server.
- COPPA Compliance: We comply with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and its implementing regulations. We do not collect, request, or maintain personal identifiable information from children under 13.
- GDPR-K & International Standards: We comply with European and UK General Data Protection Regulation provisions regarding children's personal data (GDPR-K) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
- No User Profiles: The app does not ask children for their name, age, gender, email address, date of birth, physical location, photos, or school details. There is no user registration, child profile, or cross-device learning account.
- No Social or Communication Features: There are no chat rooms, messaging features, multi-player rooms, or public leaderboards. Children cannot communicate with other users or share any content externally.
- No External Web Browsing for Children: The gameplay experience contains no external hyperlinks. Information links (such as support contacts or legal notices) are confined to the parent dashboard behind parental gate verification.
Reading and voice
No child account, name, email address, date of birth or location is requested. The app has no advertising, social sharing, analytics SDK or developer-operated learning-data server. Letter practice uses buttons inside the app, without opening a third-party keyboard. Sticker search also uses these buttons.
Voice is optional and off by default, including after an upgrade from an older version. A grown-up can enable it in Parents > Privacy & learning data. Android microphone permission is also required. Voice recognition uses Android's on-device recognition API on supported Android 12 or newer devices. Unsupported devices, unavailable models and recognition failures can use letter practice; the app has no cloud speech fallback. Recognition is temporary. The app does not store audio or speech transcripts. It clears recognised text when leaving the turn or stopping audio. The microphone stops when the app goes into the background. Voice and letter practice both earn stickers on completion, regardless of score.
Audio hints are recordings packaged with the app. No text-to-speech service is used for these hints.
- Real-Time Pronunciation Matching Only: Spoken audio is used exclusively to evaluate whether the child pronounced the displayed target word during an active listening turn.
- No Audio Recording or Storage: Sight Word Adventure never records, saves, or stores audio files (such as .wav, .mp3, or raw audio buffers) on your device's persistent storage, and never uploads or transmits audio to Sly Realms, developer servers, or any cloud server.
- No Speech Transcripts Stored: Recognition candidates exist only ephemerally in volatile memory while the listening turn is active. The app clears recognised text when leaving the turn or stopping audio; only the practice outcome (such as first-try success, retry, or skip) is recorded in the local database.
- On-Device Recognition API: The app interfaces directly with Android's native on-device recognition API on supported Android 12 or newer devices, with no cloud speech fallback. Audio hints played by the app stop completely before the microphone opens, preventing self-triggering.
- Microphone Stops in Background: Leaving the practice screen, tapping back, switching apps, or backgrounding the device instantly cancels any active listening turn and immediately releases the microphone.
- Built-In Letter Practice Buttons: Letter practice uses buttons inside the app, without opening a third-party keyboard. Sticker search also uses these buttons. Granting microphone permission is completely optional.
Learning records on this device
The app saves practice dates, levels, word outcomes, retries, session duration, input mode, awards, earned stickers and their board positions. It also saves practice settings. This supports progress displays and keeps the child's artwork between visits. There is no child profile or cross-device learning account. These records remain in private app storage until a parent deletes them or Android clears the app's storage/uninstalls it. The free dashboard's seven-day view is a display limit, not a deletion schedule. Premium does not determine access to privacy export and deletion controls.
| Category | What is stored | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Practice History | Practice dates, levels, word outcomes, retries, session duration, and input mode (voice or letter practice). | Enables the parent dashboard to display practice streaks, daily activity, and progress over time. |
| Word Mastery | Current mastery classification (Needs Practice, Growing, or Mastered) based on successful turns. | Helps parents identify words that need review and drives focused practice sessions. |
| Earned Stickers & Artwork | Earned stickers and their board positions. | Keeps the child's sticker collection and creative sticker board artwork intact between visits. |
| Learning Awards | Earned milestones and unlock dates across the practice award journeys. | Celebrates reading consistency and personal reading milestones. |
| Practice Settings | Selected reading level, hint sound toggle, voice enabled toggle, and practice settings. | Preserves your customized learning environment between sessions. |
| Reviewer & Subscription Cache | Locally stored signed entitlement, purchase status, product identifiers and purchase tokens returned by Google Play. | Enables paid features offline without requiring repeated Play Store connections. Not a child profile and excluded from backup. |
Android App Backup & Device Transfers: This version disables Android app backup and explicitly excludes app storage from cloud backup and device transfers. These settings do not erase backups made by older versions. Parents should manage any older backups with their backup provider. We cannot guarantee behaviour of modified devices or tools outside Android's standard backup system.
Zero advertising & no behavioral tracking
In strict accordance with Google Play Families policy and child protection best practices:
- No Third-Party Ads: Sight Word Adventure contains no banner ads, no interstitial ads, no video ads, and no playable ads.
- No Ad Networks or Ad SDKs: There are no advertising SDKs (such as Google AdMob or Unity Ads) embedded in the app.
- No Advertising Identifiers: The app does not collect, read, or transmit the Android Advertising ID (AAID / GAID) for marketing or profiling.
- No Third-Party Analytics: We do not integrate third-party behavioral analytics, crash telemetry trackers, or marketing trackers that collect device information.
- No Learning-Data Server: The app has no developer-operated learning-data server; practice data remains strictly on your device.
Parent purchases
Optional subscriptions use Google Play Billing. The app reads purchase status, product identifiers and purchase tokens and acknowledges purchases through Google Play to enable paid features. It does not receive payment-card details or send learning records with purchases. Billing is first contacted when the parent area opens; it can refresh an existing billing connection afterwards. Google controls its account, payment and service records under its own terms and privacy policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). The app does not set Google retention periods. There is no child purchase account inside this app. Reviewer access is a locally stored signed entitlement, not a child profile; it is excluded from backup and can be removed in the Premium screen.
Parent Gate Protection
Children's gameplay screens, reading sessions, sticker boards, and award displays contain zero purchase buttons, upgrade banners, or external links. Subscription options and billing controls are accessible strictly within the Parent Dashboard, behind a parental gate question, preventing accidental child taps or purchases.
Subscription Management & Cancellation: You can review, update, or cancel your subscription at any time directly through Google Play under Google Play Store → Profile Icon → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future auto-renewal while preserving Premium access through the end of your already paid billing cycle. Google Play purchase records must be managed with Google Play.
Parent controls and copies
Parents > Privacy & learning data provides a complete JSON export of learning records and settings, including older history, and Delete all learning data. Full deletion removes sessions, word results, awards, stickers and board layouts, resets practice settings and turns voice off. Clear all practice history in the dashboard is a smaller operation that keeps stickers. Parents can turn voice off at any time and revoke microphone permission in Android settings.
An export is created only after a parent chooses a destination in Android's file picker. Choosing a cloud provider sends that copy to the provider. Exported copies are outside the app's control: remove them separately. No copy of the export is retained by the app. Full deletion does not cancel a subscription or remove reviewer access. Google Play purchase records must be managed with Google Play.
- JSON Data Export: Parents > Privacy & learning data allows parents to generate a full JSON export of learning history and practice configuration. Destination storage is selected by the parent via Android's native file picker.
- Clear Practice History: Clears sessions, word outcomes, and mastery scores in the dashboard while keeping earned stickers and sticker board layouts.
- Delete All Learning Data: Permanently removes all sessions, word results, awards, stickers and board layouts, resets practice settings, and turns voice off.
- Complete App Deletion: Uninstalling the application removes the app's local sandbox, deleting all cached data and local databases from your device immediately.
Data security
Your family's reading data is isolated within Android's per-application sandbox, preventing unauthorized access by other applications on your device. By deliberately choosing an architecture that keeps data on your device rather than storing it on remote developer cloud servers, we eliminate the risk of server-side data leaks, remote breaches, or unauthorized third-party access.
Privacy requests
You can view, export and delete the learning information directly on the device. We do not have a server copy to retrieve or erase remotely. For other privacy requests, contact slyrealms@gmail.com. Do not send a child's recordings, passwords, payment-card details or identification documents. If you email us, your email service and our email provider process the correspondence. Share only what is needed for the request. Any applicable access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability or consent-withdrawal rights can be raised through that contact; you may also contact the relevant privacy regulator. Requests may require proportionate verification. The parent navigation question is not identity verification or verifiable parental consent.
Changes
This notice describes version 1.5.0. Earlier releases used the device-selected speech recogniser and allowed backups. Installing this version cannot erase data already held by an earlier provider. Contact privacy support for help identifying the relevant provider. New network speech, analytics or child-data sharing requires a fresh privacy review before release.
If we update Sight Word Adventure to introduce new capabilities that affect data handling or privacy, we will update this notice and revise the version number and date at the top of the page before publishing the updated application version. We encourage parents to review this policy periodically.
